Windows’ range of operating systems are the most widely used OS for laptops and PCs, with millions of users relying on Windows’ platforms for work and play. It seems that there are some vulnerabilities that have been uncovered, and Microsoft is asking all users to update their Windows 10 as soon as possible.
From Microsoft’s official statement, there are two Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerabilities that allows for your devices to be “wormable”, meaning any future malware can be transferred autonomously between PCs without any user input. This is similar to the previous “Bluekeep” vulnerability that was fixed in a previous update.
Besides all supported versions of Windows 10, including server versions being affected by this vulnerability, other versions of Windows including Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2012, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 are affected. Older operating systems like Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008 are not affected by this defect.
So do yourselves a favour and update your device right now, which you can download here if you have automatic updates turned off. Hopefully we won’t be hearing about any more malicious vulnerabilities anytime soon.
