PETALING JAYA: A Digital Asset and AI Advisory Council will be set up to help put Malaysia on the forefront of the digital economy world, says the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.

During the PMO’s briefing yesterday, Tunku Nashrul said the government had agreed to form the council, which will comprise experts from inside and outside of the country.

The council will have a line-up of experts including industry experts, academics and policymakers to ensure that the approaches taken are in line with global best practices and at the same time is suitable for the Malaysian context.

“Digital technology assets and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be the main driver for global economic growth and the country’s competitiveness,” he said.

As for the Asean Summit, which will take place on May 26 to 27 at KLCC, he said Anwar has emphasised the importance of thorough preparations among ministries and agencies, especially in terms of logistics, security, protocols and traffic.

“As Asean Chairman in 2025, Malaysia aspires to ensure that this summit reflects the concrete actions for the interest of people and member states,” he said.

He said to ensure the summit is smooth sailing, the Education Ministry has announced online learning for schools at the areas involved. Aside from that, civil servants and private sector employees are encouraged to work from home for logistics purpose and to reduce the pressure on public infrastructure.
